Reflections on a School ...
Parent: "The faculty and staff have a true team approach. Your child is supported and nurtured and given the resources to be the best he can be ... with a team that is right there with you. The school delivers on the promise of providing a top-notch education for the whole child."
Parent: "I was as proud as I could be watching my first grader as he carefully plodded his way on stage with his classmates during the Christmas pageant - full of excitement and wonder. Year by year, he continued to be nurtured and encouraged by the entire Mason Prep family. Eight short years later, I was overwhelmed with joy as my son and his classmates walked across that same stage at graduation - poised and confident, celebrating each other's successes. I could not have imagined how well prepared he would be, or how much our entire family would gain from his experience at MPS."
Faculty: "Here at Mason Prep, we are committed to the success of our students throughout their school years and beyond. We delight in seeing them grow as students and citizens, and it thrills us when they come back to first grade to tell us of an accomplishment - or just to get a familiar hug. This lasting and rewarding relationship makes Mason Prep a special place."
Faculty: "When fifth graders stay at a barrier island for an on-site study, they gain hands-on experience by exploring an actual ecosystem. Through first-hand knowledge of the beach, marsh, and maritime forest, they gain a new understanding that correlates with the fifth grade science curriculum. The trip gives life to the material learned in class while building memories that last a lifetime."
From its beginnings in historic Charleston on the ground floor of our founder's home at 1 Meeting Street, Mason Preparatory School has remained committed to the education and inspiration of each student, not only as an individual but also as a whole child. Our founder, Mrs. Nancy D. Hawk put it well: "I wanted to have a school that would maintain high standards, and, at the same time, understand and serve the needs of individual children." Located on the historic Charleston peninsula that overlooks the city marina, Mason Preparatory School continues its tradition of academic excellence and commitment to each child's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical well-being. We promote character and citizenship as we partner with parents to create an open school atmosphere that is warm and welcoming.
A unique learning environment for primary, intermediate, and middle school students, Mason Preparatory School houses grades one through eight. The model effectively nurtures the younger child, while it also encourages independence and responsibility during the formative intermediate and middle years. Intermediate and middle school students prepare for high school in an environment that celebrates their unique needs without the demands of a unit school with high school students. Academically, Mason Preparatory School students are remarkably well prepared for success in high school. Socially and emotionally, they are grounded by a cumulative confidence derived from accomplishments gained in a small school where everyone knows, supports, and encourages them to achieve excellence.
