About Us

Areas We Serve

When you live in Charleston, South Carolina, you have easy access to the best of everything, including education. It’s worth considering an independent school for your child as independent schools are mission-oriented, accredited, independently governed, and they don't depend on government funding.
Mason Preparatory School is a top independent, non-profit, co-ed school for students in grades K-8 in the Charleston area focusing on character education, academic enrichment, and experiential learning.

With 305 students and an 10:1 student-to-teacher ratio, we give your child the personalized attention they need and you want; not just so they can excel academically, but so they can move on to high school with the kind of confidence and integrity that unlocks their potential and solidifies their success.

In the Heart of Downtown Charleston

Mason Prep is located downtown at 56 Halsey Boulevard, across the street from the Charleston Harbor and just two blocks from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). For directions to Mason Prep, please click here

We serve families all across the greater Charleston area, including Mt. Pleasant, James Island, and other nearby areas. In our current kindergarten class, there are 17 area pre-schools represented! Many Mason Prep parents work downtown, making it easy to drop their children off at school on their way into the office, stop by for lunch with their children, or volunteer for a classroom activity.

Because Mason Prep is so centrally located in the heart of downtown, our students are able to take field trips and explore all that Charleston has to offer, including the Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture, the Battery, the Charleston Museum, the Dock Street Theatre, Gaillard Center, the Gibbes Museum of Art, the Sottile Theatre, and  the South Carolina Aquarium.

How is Mason Prep Different from Other Schools in the Charleston Area?

At Mason Prep, we approach your child’s education from a whole child perspective, taking care to focus on emotional and social needs as well as academics. Serving grades K-8 is an intentional design, offering a supportive, safe space for growth and development prior to high school. Our smaller size is also intentional; we give all our students the opportunity to participate in activities, serve in leadership roles, and play on sports teams.

Our emphasis on respect, integrity, and personal responsibility shows in everything we do. We put families first, keeping you informed and encouraging parental involvement. We are committed to engaged learning and overall wellbeing; we offer multiple after-school activities, including art, dance, boxing, and soccer.
