James Island
The town of James Island, which was formerly all farmland, was founded in 1992 and is now a popular residential area adjacent to Charleston, S.C. Like many lowcountry locales, James Island is well known for its small town charm and close-knit community.
Approximately one-third of Mason Prep students are from James Island. Just a quick 10-15 minute drive right over the James Island connector, Mason Prep is a top independent school located in downtown Charleston at 56 Halsey Boulevard. - There’s a little bit of everything at James Island County Park - a waterpark, dog park, miles of trails for walking or biking, kayak rentals, and more. The park is a popular field trip destination for Mason Prep students who enjoy nature walks or the ropes course.
- Spend the day at Folly Beach County Park.
- Play 18 holes at “the Muni,” Charleston Municipal Golf Course.
- See the Morris Island Lighthouse at Folly Beach.
- Enjoy fresh seafood at Bowens Island.
- You might see Mason Prep students on an educational field trip to the McLeod Plantation Historic Site.
