Grades 7-8

Becoming Confident in Your Abilities and Your Path Forward

In seventh and eighth grade, students take meaningful steps toward independence, learning how to manage greater responsibility, advocate for themselves, and navigate both academic and social challenges with confidence.

As the oldest students on campus, they embrace leadership roles, build lasting friendships, and enjoy some of Mason Prep's most memorable experiences. Along the way, they develop the skills and maturity that prepare them for success in high school and beyond.

Building Confidence for the Road Ahead.

We Believe…confidence comes from being challenged, supported, and given opportunities to grow.
You’ll See It In…City Council, extra help sessions, KNI-TV, overnight trips, and opportunities to earn high school credit.

The Years They'll Never Forget

A Rigorous and Supportive Academic Experience

Middle School students are challenged by an advanced curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, creativity, and strong study habits. Courses include literature; GVC (grammar, composition, and vocabulary); mathematics, history, science, Innovation & Design, physical education, and a choice of French or Spanish. Teachers provide regular extra help sessions, ensuring that students not only keep up, but gain confidence in their abilities. Eighth graders may earn high school credit in algebra and global language, giving them a strong academic foundation for what comes next.

Opportunities to Lead, Explore, and Grow

Beyond the classroom, Middle School students take on meaningful roles within the school community while expanding their experiences beyond campus. They serve as leaders in student government, help lead traditions like the Halloween Carnival, and mentor younger students as Pen Pals. Through team sports and extracurricular activities, students learn to balance commitments, manage their time, and grow as teammates. Learning also extends beyond campus through memorable trips: seventh graders travel to the North Carolina mountains and eighth graders visit Washington, DC, experiences that build independence, strengthen friendships, and create lasting memories.

Academic Excellence and Enrichment

Students are encouraged to challenge themselves through opportunities like SCISA (South Carolina Independent School Association) academic competitions, including Quiz Bowl and the Spelling Bee. Students also participate in the National Geography Bee and History Bowl. Many of our students earn membership in the National Junior Honor Society, which recognizes students who demonstrate strong academics, character, and service.

A Bridge to High School & Higher Education

Middle School is the bridge to high school and higher education. We believe that bridge is best built outside the shadow of a high school. In this way, our Middle School students can stand in their own light, not eclipsed by high schoolers. Both transient and transformative, Middle School is a unique link that connects a child's formative years to the future.
