For many years, Mason Preparatory School has offered financial assistance to our students based on demonstrated financial need. We realize that sending your child to an independent school requires a great financial commitment, and we deeply appreciate that you have placed your trust in Mason Prep for your child’s education. Again this year, Mason Prep and our Board of Trustees have also made a commitment. In 2013, we began making need-based financial aid available to incoming students as well as to our current students. Our administration and Board of Trustees are committed to maintaining Mason Prep’s affordability for our current families and to making Mason Prep more accessible to new families.
Mason Prep uses the School and Student Services (SSS) program sponsored by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) to manage the application process in a fair, consistent and confidential manner.
Although SSS previously accepted financial aid applications on paper, this process is now conducted strictly online. The home page for the SSS financial aid process is sssbynais.org/parents. Parents may begin applications for financial aid for the 2017-18 school year on October 24, 2016. The process begins when you visit the SSS site and complete a Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS). A non-refundable fee of $48 is required in order to submit the PFS to SSS. You may submit the required W-2 and tax returns by uploading them to SSS online. They may also be mailed to SSS, but uploading them to SSS online allows Mason Prep to receive the documentation more quickly. This document from SSS contains more information about the financial aid application process.
For current Mason Prep families, we must be able to access your PFS and all required documentation by February 3, 2017, in order for your financial aid application to be considered in the first round of decision making before the February 9 reenrollment due date. It is very important that you adhere to the deadline and provide the required documentation so that all necessary information will be available to the Financial Aid Committee. This committee meeting was moved from April to February beginning in 2013 so that parents can be made aware of financial aid decisions before enrollment contracts are due for our current students. For families of new students applying to grades K - 8, we must be able to access your PFS and all required documentation by February 21, 2017, in order for a potential financial aid award letter to accompany an acceptance letter. All information you provide will be kept in strict confidence. However, applications for financial aid submitted without the required documentation will not be considered.
Applications for financial aid for the 2017-2018 school year must include a 2016 W-2 and tax returns for 2014 and 2015. While we will carefully consider financial aid applications received during the spring and summer, there is no guarantee that additional aid will be available, so we urge you to file your application as soon as possible.
Mason Preparatory School accepts qualified students and follows a policy of non-discrimination as to race, sex, color, religion, and national or ethnic origin. Mason Prep seeks a student population diverse in various ways.
