On November 6, Mason Preparatory School hosted Castles & the Community, a 24-hour giving day fueled by student leadership and community generosity. As part of a friendly, schoolwide competition, each of Mason Prep’s four Castles: Halsey, Hawk, Montagu, and Starr, rallied to raise funds in support of both the school’s Annual Fund and selected Charleston-area nonprofits.
Leading up to the event, all eighth-grade students researched local nonprofit organizations and presented persuasive letters and video pitches to their schoolmates. After thoughtful consideration and Castle-wide voting, each Castle selected one nonprofit to support. At the conclusion of the giving day, each Castle donated 10% of the funds they raised to their chosen nonprofit, while the remainder supported Mason Prep’s Annual Fund, which enhances academic programming, faculty development, and campus improvements.
This year’s selected nonprofits included:
Castle Halsey: Alzheimer’s Association
Castle Hawk: Camp Happy Days
Castle Montagu: My Sister’s House
Castle Starr: Pet Helpers
“Castles & the Community is more than a fundraiser, it’s a tradition rooted in service, empathy, and leadership,” said Jennifer Baker, Head of School. “We’re proud of the way our students not only researched and advocated for meaningful causes but also inspired our entire school community to give back.”
Together, Mason Prep students, families, alumni, and friends showed what’s possible when a community comes together in support of both education and local impact.
Mason Preparatory School is committed to the education of the whole child in preparation for secondary education through the cultivation of respect, integrity, and personal responsibility within a nurturing environment that results in a productive citizen of a global community.
